One Click, One Clear Plan: Inside Our Free Digital Footprint Analysis

Most business owners know their online presence could be better. Few know exactly what’s wrong, what it’s costing them, or what to fix first. So the website stays the same, the ads stay off, and the phone rings a little less each year while competitors pull ahead.

That’s why we offer a free digital footprint analysis: a close look at your website, your Google presence, your reviews, and your competitors, followed by a strategy session where we walk you through what we found. It takes one click to book. Here’s what it uncovers, using a real example.

What Is a Digital Footprint Analysis?

Your digital footprint is everything a customer can find about you online: your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your directory listings, your ads, and how all of it compares with the businesses you compete against.

A digital footprint analysis looks at all of it together. That matters, because the pieces depend on each other. A great review profile can’t fully help a website that loads too slowly on a phone. Ads can’t convert on pages that don’t exist.

A Real Example: A 60-Year-Old Midwest Roofing Company

Recently we ran this analysis for a roofing company in the Midwest that has been in business for about 60 years. Strong reputation, real certifications, decades of happy customers. Online, though, that reputation wasn’t reaching the homeowners searching for a roofer. Here’s what we found (details anonymized).

Finding 1: The website was slow on phones

Google’s mobile speed score for the homepage was 50 out of 100, and the main content took 6.6 seconds to appear on a phone. A key service page took 8.3 seconds. Google’s guidance for a good experience is that the main content, measured as Largest Contentful Paint, should appear in 2.5 seconds or less.

Bar chart: time until main content appears on a phone, homepage 6.6 seconds and service page 8.3 seconds, versus Google's 2.5-second good mark

A homeowner with a leak searches on a phone and taps the first roofers they see. If the page is still loading, they call the next one.

Finding 2: Missing from the local top 3

For the core roofing searches we checked, the company did not appear in Google’s local top 3 results, the map listings homeowners see first.

Finding 3: The fewest reviews in the market

Of the nine local roofers we compared, our example company had the fewest Google reviews. Google’s own Business Profile Help says more reviews and positive ratings can help a business’s local ranking.

Bar chart of Google review counts: Competitors A through H range from 963 to 114 reviews; our example company has 106, the fewest

Finding 4: Website structure that confused Google

  • The same main headline on every page, so Google couldn’t tell the pages apart.
  • The wrong address in the site’s code. The business data behind the homepage listed an outdated address.
  • No pages for repair, replacement, storm, or insurance work, which are the jobs homeowners search for most.
  • 53% of images had no alt text, the short description that helps search engines and screen readers understand an image.

Finding 5: Competitors were winning the traffic

The top local competitor drew about 10 times more estimated monthly search visits than our example company.

Bar chart of estimated monthly visits from Google search: the top competitor at about 4,700 and our example company at about 473

Finding 6: No ads and limited phone hours

The company had never run a Google ad, while 8 of the 9 competitors we checked advertise on Google. And the phones were answered just 22% of the week, about 37.5 of 168 hours. Storms, leaks, and plenty of homeowner searches happen outside business hours.

None of this meant the company was doing a bad job as a roofer. It meant its online presence wasn’t keeping up with its reputation, and every one of these gaps was fixable.

What the Analysis Covers

Every analysis is built on research, not guesswork. Depending on your business, we review:

  • Website audit: headings, page titles, descriptions, content depth, internal links, images, business data, and indexing
  • Speed and mobile: Google PageSpeed Insights tests on mobile and desktop
  • Search visibility: where you rank, which pages bring visits, and who you’re competing against
  • Keyword demand: what customers in your market actually search for, and how competitive it is
  • Google Maps and your Business Profile: local top 3 results, ratings, and what reviews say
  • Listings: whether your name, address, and phone match across directories
  • Competitors: reviews, Maps presence, websites, offers, and advertising
  • Advertising: who in your market is running Google and social ads
  • Lead handling: how calls and forms are answered, and how fast

What You Walk Away With: A Three-Stage Plan

The analysis turns into a clear, prioritized plan. For our roofing example, it looked like this:

Stage 1: Fix the foundation (the website)

Every channel sends people to the website, so it comes first. That meant a fast, mobile-first site with a page for every service and area served, a clear heading structure, correct business data, described images, and an estimate form and tap-to-call on every page, moved carefully so existing rankings are protected. See our web design approach.

Stage 2: Grow search and local visibility

Once the foundation is solid: optimize the Google Business Profile, clean up listings, build a steady review system, publish helpful content, and track progress in the map results. That’s the core of our search engine optimization work.

Stage 3: Add marketing that brings in more calls

With a site that converts, add search ads, fast lead follow-up, after-hours call coverage, and other campaigns that fit the business, so new demand turns into booked jobs.

Why a Strategy Session Pays Off

  • You see the whole picture, not one vendor’s slice of it.
  • You get priorities, not a pile of problems. Knowing what to fix first saves money.
  • You see where you stand against competitors, with evidence.
  • You can act on it yourself or with any partner you choose.

Our promise

You’ll leave the strategy session with a clear, prioritized action plan you can use whether you hire us or not.

To be clear about what we don’t promise: no honest marketer can guarantee specific rankings, leads, or revenue. Search results depend on competition, search engine changes, and demand. What we can promise is a clear picture and a practical plan.

Practical Takeaways

  • Check your homepage on a phone. If the main content takes longer than about 2.5 seconds, that’s worth fixing.
  • Search your core services and see whether you appear in the local top 3.
  • Compare your review count with your top competitors.
  • Make sure every core service has its own page.
  • Confirm your address is correct everywhere, including your website’s code.
  • Know when your phones go unanswered, and what happens to those calls.
